The project is a collaboration between ATB and the Bologna-based company City Red Bus , which operates "City Tour" services in various locations using open-top buses, next-generation low-impact trains, and electric minibuses, ideal for use in historic centers and pedestrian areas. The two companies have designed two routes specifically for Bergamo, dedicated to both tourists and locals who want to rediscover the unique features of their city from a unique perspective.
The service will start on Tuesday, May 31st, at 2:00 PM, after the presentation press conference, and will run every day (except Tuesdays) until June 30th. From July 1st to August 28th, however, it will remain active on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays, with services from 9:45 AM to 6:25 PM.
The routes
Bergamo City Tour offers two fascinating itineraries, each with audio guides that can be enjoyed while remaining comfortably seated on board tourist vehicles.
The red route , mainly dedicated to the lower city, is a loop with four stops: the bus station, via XX Settembre, the city funicular – lower station, Colle Aperto and return.
The blue route is dedicated to the discovery of the Upper Town and the city's museums with a circular itinerary that starts from the City Funicular – upper station, passes by the Cathedral, the "museum area" with the GAMeC (Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art of Bergamo) and the Accademia Carrara , before going back up Colle Aperto and returning to the starting point.
Both routes last 50 minutes. The Colle Aperto stop is the interchange point for the two tours.
The means
There are three vehicles involved in the Bergamo City Tour: a small train and two minibuses.
The red route operates a train with a low-impact engine (Euro 6 diesel) and three carriages with seating for up to 56 people. The train is equipped with a pneumatic ramp and accommodations for disabled passengers.
The blue route is operated by two 100% electric minibuses with kinetic charging on the descents, with 15 seats and also equipped with a space for disabled people.
Service and costs
The full ticket for a single route, both red and blue, costs 10 euros , while the cumulative ticket for both routes costs 17 euros (combined full ticket).
A reduced-price single-journey ticket (for children aged 6 to 10, disabled passengers, and their companions) costs 6 euros , while a combined reduced-price ticket costs 10 euros . A Kids' ticket (for children up to 5 years old) costs 3 euros, even in its combined version.
The ticket allows you to travel the entire route, with the option to hop off once at any of the stops along the way and hop back on again throughout the day, subject to availability.
Upon participating in the tours, each passenger will be given a disposable headset kit that will allow them to listen to an audio guide in Italian and English with artistic and cultural information and insights into the monuments visible along the route and interesting facts about the city of Bergamo.
